Turiddu returns from war to find his love, Lola, married to another. In a scheme to induce jealousy, he seduces Santuzza. As swiftly as she is beguiled, Santuzza is discarded while Turiddu begins an affair with his old flame. After the conclusion of Easter mass, passions erupt and expose the ugliness of jealousy. With stirring melodies as iconic as the story, Cavalleria rusticana reveals the consequences of infidelity and the lengths we might go to for revenge. Ms. Hankey makes her Lyric Opera of Kansas City debut as Santuzza.

PELLEAS ET MELISANDE
The Santa Fe Opera will partner with 95.5 KHFM Classical Public Radio to present a pre-recorded, remastered broadcast of each production. KHFM serves the entire state of New Mexico via translators in Albuquerque, Taos, Roswell and Ruidoso and reaches national and international listeners via online streaming. Not seen on the Santa Fe Opera stage since 1977, Debussy’s masterpiece Pelléas et Mélisande is presented from July 15, 2023 in a riveting new site-specific production directed and designed by Netia Jones. Santa Fe Opera Music Director Harry Bicket conducts a cast headlined by two thrilling singers in their Santa Fe Opera debuts: baritone Huw Montague Rendall and mezzo-soprano Samantha Hankey. Ms. Hankey makes her debut in the title role of this love triangle of royal proportions.

Festival of Song returns! Performance Santa Fe opens the series with an enchanting recital by baritone Huw Montague Rendall and mezzo-soprano Samantha Hankey, the leads of the Santa Fe Opera’s Pelléas et Mélisande. A sterling cast assembles for Strauss’s grand Viennese comedy. Soprano Lise Davidsen is the aging Marschallin, opposite mezzo-soprano Samantha Hankey as her lover Octavian and soprano Erin Morley as Sophie, the beautiful younger woman who steals his heart. Bass Günther Groissböck returns as the churlish Baron Ochs, and Markus Brück is Sophie’s wealthy father, Faninal. Maestro Simone Young takes the Met podium to oversee Robert Carsen’s fin-de-siècle staging. This live cinema transmission is part of the Met’s award-winning Live in HD series, bringing opera to movie theaters across the globe.

Samantha Hankey jumped into the role of Prince Charmant at the Opéra National de Paris. This performance represents Hankey’s company debut.
